How long does a hoarding clearance take?
Anywhere from a few hours to several visits spread over weeks. That is an honest answer, not a dodge, and these are the things that decide where a job lands.
The six things that set the timescale
Volume and weight. Books, records, tools and bagged textiles are far heavier per cubic metre than general clutter, and stacks that go up rather than out hide a lot.
How much sorting is wanted. Removal only from an agreed list is quickest. Working through items with you is slower and often better, and both are legitimate choices.
Access. A top floor tenement flat with a tight half landing turn takes much longer than the same volume at ground level.
Distance to the van. A legal loading position fifty metres from the close mouth adds time on every run.
Waste type. Fridges, mattresses, paint, chemicals and electricals each have their own route and need separating.
Whether lofts, cellars, gardens or outbuildings are included, and whether permission for shared space is in place.
Typical shapes of job
A single room
Often half a day, sometimes a full one where the room is deep or the stair is long. Usually one visit.
A heavily filled two bedroom flat
Commonly a full day for a removal focused clearance with a reasonable carry, and two or more visits where sorting is being done alongside the household.
A whole house with loft, garage and garden
Two to four days of crew time, frequently split into stages so the household keeps a usable home throughout.
Staged clearances
Planned in visits of a day or less, a week or two apart. Each stage finishes a room or a zone rather than skimming everything.
Why we would rather send more people for less time
For properties with a long carry we size the crew to the stair rather than to the floor area. More people for a shorter day keeps the close in use for shorter bursts, gets the household back to normal sooner and is easier on neighbours than a small team working late.
What you get in writing
The written quote includes a realistic time window, not a best case. If the work runs over more than one day, it says which rooms each day covers. If the scope changes on the day, we agree it with you before anything else happens; the figure does not move unless the scope does.
